Tired, dull, uneven skin

Our skin is made up largely of keratin, collagen, elastin, plus other important substances like hyaluronic acid. It has three primary layers, each of which helps:

  • act as a barrier

  • retain hydration

  • influence how our skin looks and feels

As we get older, we undergo changes both from inside (natural/chronological aging) and outside (sun exposure, smoking, pollution, etc.). These changes affect collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid in a few key ways.

  Changes as we age

  • Decline in collagen and elastin

    • The production of these structural proteins slows down. Collagen synthesis, for example, drops by about 1–1.5% per year after early adulthood.

    • The fibres themselves become more fragmented, disorganized, and less effective.

  • Loss / reduction of hyaluronic acid (HA)

    • HA is a molecule in skin that holds water and helps maintain hydration, elasticity, and softness.

    • As we age, the skin’s ability to make HA decreases. Also, its degradation (break-down) increases. The result is less water retention, more dryness, less plumpness.

  • Combined effects

    • The skin structure becomes weaker and more disorganized. Texture becomes more uneven, hydration drops, fine lines and wrinkles deepen.

    • Light reflects less well off uneven skin surfaces, making skin look duller and flatter than when its structure was smooth and firm.

This is a natural process, but many external factors accelerate it (sun damage, smoking, poor skincare, etc.).

Our goal isn't to just mask imperfections - it's to help our skin reflect light, hold hydration, and feel strong, supple, and radiant again.
